 The Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the high availability production and test environments of the college. Must be a self-starter, work independently as well as with a diverse technical team, and take ownership. Provides tier 2 operations support which includes identifying, resolving or escalating hardware and/or software issues that span multiple technology domains; primarily focused on supporting the Linux computing platform.This is a high visibility position in the technology group.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and application development staff.
  • Administers systems by actively managing patching, routine maintenance and backups to include the scheduling and execution of related tasks.
  • Identifies, diagnoses and resolves system alerts and time sensitive events that could impact system availability leveraging an escalation path when appropriate.
  • Responds to system failures and works with support or vendor teams to minimize business impact.
  • Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Participates in all meetings related to change, incident or problem management
  • Identifies performance issues and trends impacting system availability or expected behavior and work to incorporate them into the problem management process.
  • Develop, maintain and document installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Contribute to and maintain security posture of the system in accordance to IT Security Policies and industry best practices.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
