Job Description

Senior Java Developer

Client's Middle and Large Commercial IT Department is currently seeking a Senior java Developer to join our Underwriting Application Development organization. The Sr. java Developer is an important position that will work very closely with technology and investments professionals to ensure that their dynamic information and automation needs are met.

This position requires an individual that has strong software development and communications skills. This role will work on a wide variety of systems initiatives that include developing interactive and batch systems, as well as integrating existing and vendor systems. Much of the systems development will require an understanding of object oriented design. Some of these systems will be used by Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Analysts to make investment and financial management decisions.

This is an opportunity for an individual with a passion for understanding business problems and developing creative solutions on business critical systems. The successful individual will be able to collaborate with the business and technical team, develop solutions and deliver on milestones.

Middle and Large Commercial IT environment consists primarily of the following platforms and technologies:

  • Java/J2EE
  • Application Server like WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss
  • SOAP and RESTful Web Services
  • Web related technologies, JSF, JSP, CSS and Servlets
  • XML, XSD
  • Jenkins/Nexus, Maven or similar build and deployment tool
  • Database technologies such as Oracle, SQL, JPA
  • MQ
  • JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, CSS and HTML5
  • Source Code version tools such as Github, Subversion
  • SSL/TLS security
  • LDAP
  • Experience with Angular or Angular JS a plus

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1+ years' experience developing systems with Java and solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in an investment environment is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with software development, testing, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • 1+ years' experience with development and maintenance of systems using SQL databases.
  • 1+ years of experience with system development and maintenance on Windows server platforms.
  • Experience in supporting the implementation and integration of vendor systems and packages is a plus.
  • Prior exposures to investment software systems and reporting tools are a plus.
  • Demonstrated passion for learning and applying technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability is required. Must be able to communicate with business users in non-technical terms and communicate the impacts of system changes to business partners.
  • Demonstrated interest and/or basic knowledge of investments and capital markets desirable
  • Demonstrated expertise with basic business analysis techniques.
  • Analytical approach with a strong ability to uncover and resolve problems and deliver innovative approaches and solutions.
  • Ability to set and manage own priorities effectively in a dynamic organization while providing reliable estimates for project tasks and delivering upon committed dates.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with peers and work as part of a high performing and aggressive team.
  • Effective listener, who can give timely and constructive feedback. Is willing to state opinions assertively and deals constructively with conflict situations.
